Introduction
Welcome
Hello and thank you for being here. We will be sharing our journey as we navigate the challenges a gluten free diet can bring. We'll provide recommendations for businesses we've come across that are proudly gluten free in Belfast and across Northern Ireland! We hope to help locals, from dining at home to eating out. Let's build a community, share our experiences and make life a little easier for individuals and families who have Coeliac, gluten allergies and intolerances.
Who we are
I'm Christina - a 30 something mother of three. My 10 year old son, 'C' (hence the blog name 'Gluten Free with C') was first believed to have coeliac. However he has now been diagnosed with a wheat allergy. Gluten is a protein found in grains, such as wheat, barley and rye. Gluten free products are safe as they should not contain wheat ingredients. Technically, C can have barley and rye, just without the wheat, however we've found it easier and safer to stick to a gluten free diet.
Our family is only a few months in to this journey. The first grocery shop post diagnosis took an hour more than usual, and had increased by £30. Planning would be key to success.
It's worth mentioning that many healthy foods are naturally gluten free, including fruit and vegetables, fresh meats, legumes and dairy. This blog will cover many of the treat foods we love, but that should be consumed within moderation.
